Neighbourhood Plan - NCC delay ‘making’ the plan - click here for full article

April 21, 2016 4:52 PM

The current delay by the County Council in "making" the Neighbourhood Plan, is infuriating for the people of Morpeth, and in particular all those who worked so hard to prepare it over a period of four years. Mitford Estates, who wish to build houses and a trunk road service station with lorry park etc. on land west of Lancaster Park, have, at the last minute submitted a legal challenge. It is too early to comment on the legal position except to say that the timing of the challenge is extremely cynical. Local Liberal Democrats Town Councillors and Cllr Nic Best have led this work from the beginning, and many members of the community have been involved, although Morpeth Conservative and Labour Councillors and potential candidates have been noticeable by their absence. This is a matter of public record, with notes of all Topic Group meetings being available on the website. One local conservative did attempt, very late in the day, to join the Plan Preparation Group, but his suggestions were inappropriate and his timing highly politically motivated. Everyone involved in the Plan has ensured throughout that the Neighbourhood Plan was not politicised, but when would-be politicians make claims about their expertise and community involvement it is important for residents to understand just who has done the work and demonstrated their commitment in a practical and continuous way.
