Trial parking permit scheme starts

March 6, 2016 5:12 PM

For many years, residents of Goose Hill, Tenter Terrace and Alexandra Road have often been unable to park reasonably close to their homes because of inconsiderate parking, frequently all-day, by drivers either shopping or working in Morpeth. After protracted consultations with Northumberland County Council, Lib Dem Cllr. Dave Pope (pictured with Stobhill candidate Lee Walker) in conjunction with a number of residents and the two County Councillors for the area, succeeded in organising a 12 moth trial of residents only parking in the streets named, and in West Greens.

The scheme operates Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm, allowing a 20 minute "drop off" period for parents with children either at Morpeth County First School or Goosehill Private Nursery. The December 1st start date for the scheme was somewhat delayed, but it is now up and running until the end of November 2016, during which time, Civil Enforcement Officers and officers of Northumberland County Council will evaluate its success. Meanwhile, residents' opinions will be extremely valuable. Parking Permits for residents are available free of charge during the trial period on application to Northumberland County Council.
